4-days Lake Safari Thailand

Lake Safari Thailand 4 days

The houseboat is built like a modern version of the traditional Thai houseboats, where the locals in this area live. The Lake Safari on a houseboat is therefore completely in line with the local tradition and culture. You can look forward to a unique experience. Very few travelers visit this area in Thailand and Thailand Tours is one of the few tourist agencies offering to sail around on a houseboat on this picturesque lake.

There is limited space for only a total of 12 passengers. The trip is suited for families with children, as the houseboat creates a safe and comfortable base for an adventurous experience. The Lake Safari is a mix of activities and relaxation. The sailing trip begins from a floating fishing village with a small temple and small stores by the Khao Laem Lake; also called “The 1000 Islands Lake”. The area is not far from the border to Myanmar (Burma) by the Three Pagodas Pass. In this dramatic landscape of rainforest and mountains, you are far from the modern world and conventional tourist routes.

Get onboard the floating “guest house” and be sailed along the impressive Khao Laem Lake at a calm and steady pace. It is a scenic area with a multitude of green islands spread across the blue surface of the lake.
On the houseboat sailing trip, pulled by a traditional long-tail boat, you are surrounded by magnificent nature that you will get plenty of opportunities to get close to.

Along the way you will, among other things, get to hike in the dense jungle, bamboo raft down a river and sit high on the back of an elephant. The houseboat sets its own speed at 5-7 kilometres per hour, but you are in control of the pace onboard. Whether you prefer sitting in a sun-chair with a beer or soda enjoying the fantastic scenery or being more active, your needs will be fulfilled on this Lake Safari. Take a dip whenever you feel like it, grab a fishing pole to catch the night’s dinner or race the houseboat in a kayak.
It is spectacular mountain formations and dense jungle framing the peacefulness of the place – a peacefulness that grows as the sun sets and darkness appears, with only the sparkling, starry sky, appearing even closer than you may have ever experienced.

Start and end destination: Bangkok.

Target group: The trip is suitable for all including families with children.
Season: The trip can be completed year round. The best time is from November to February, as it is dry and the temperature is at its lowest – day temperature is around 30 degrees Celsius. From March until May, the temperature can be higher. From May to November the weather is quite changeable and torrential rain can occur.

Itinerary:

Day one of your Lake Safari Thailand tour takes you from the busy streets of Bangkok to Khao Laem National Park in the northwest of central Thailand.

Early in the morning, you are picked up at your hotel to embark on a journey of roughly 350 km deep into the heart of Thailand and far away from the metropolitan bustle of modern Bangkok.

On the way, an English-speaking guide introduces you to the history and culture of Kanchanaburi – Thailand’s largest central province. Complete with a delicious Thai lunch the trip promises to give you a memorable first taste of authentic Thailand.

Next, a visit of the world-famous River Kwai Bridge takes you back to a dark chapter of world history.

Finally, you arrive at the Lake Safari Thailand raft house “Wijittra” during the afternoon and embark on an unforgettable journey towards Sangklaburi.

Day 2: Jungle Trekking and Houseboat

As the day breaks, the Lake Safari Thailand houseboat is pulled past a local Mon fishing village made up entirely of floating raft houses. The locals here live a simple life and you may well awake to the sounds of passing long-tail boats as fishermen travel to their nets to assess the nightly catch.

After breakfast, you leave for the jungle. An experienced ranger will introduce you to the many wondrous species that live and thrive in their protected habitat at Khao Laem National Park.

You spend the remainder of the day on the houseboat. Far from mobile phones and internet connections, you take a refreshing dip in the lake, fish a bit, get comfortable with a good book or just doze off in a hammock. Perhaps you feel a little strange at first having nothing to do, no plans, no distractions. Then, after a while, you settle into your surroundings and begin to enjoy simply allowing the day to drift idly by.

Day 3: Sangklaburi and Mon Bridge.

Coming down for breakfast, you spot the pointed roof of a golden chedi piercing the horizon as the Lake Safari Thailand houseboat takes final anchorage outside Sangkhlaburi, a small town on the northern shores of Khao Laem Reservoir.

The day’s excursion takes you into the city where you visit Wat Wang Wiwekaram and Chedi Buddhakhaya, two religious landmarks in the local community. Bound by a common faith, the population of Sangkhlaburi is otherwise a colourful blend of ethnic identities including Thai, Burmese, Mon, Karen and even some Lao.

You move on to another symbolic and literal link between the local cultures: Saphan Mon – Thailand’s longest wooden bridge at 850 metres. Built in 1987 by ethnic Mon people in honour of a local abbot who gave sanctuary to Burmese refugees, the bridge links the Thai district of Sangkhlaburi with the Mon community of Ban Wangka.

Day 4: Hell Fire Pass and return to Bangkok

After an early breakfast, you leave the Lake Safari Thailand houseboat to visit the Hell Fire Pass and museum.

From here, you start the ride back to Bangkok.

Later that day, back among the highways and high-rises of downtown Bangkok, you briefly think back to that moment when you had nothing to do, no plans, no distractions. Then, after a while, you blend into the rhythms of the city with a smile.

Expected arrival around 8 pm.
